However, for some reason, Samsung is one of the few brands that over the years has refused to introduce this feature in their phone software ... and with Android Pie that is not going to change.

This has been assured by SamMobile, and it is that in the latest Android Pie builds for the Samsung Galaxy S9, Note9 and Note8, it has been discovered that this useful functionality is still not present, which indicates that one more year the owners of Any of the South Korean models will not be able to take advantage of one of the most important advantages developed by Google for all those who use a microSD on their phones.

On several occasions, Samsung has alleged that the reason why this feature is not included in their phones is because “it is a function dedicated to cheap terminals with little internal memory, and that most users use the microSD to store files and pass them from one device to another ”.

This statement, in part, makes sense because when using a microSD in Android with Adoptable Storage, the card is formatted to be used as an extension of the internal memory, and in case of wanting to use it in other devices, it would be necessary to reformat the card or else it will not work properly. Even so, that Samsung does not offer this feature as an option that the user can choose whether to activate or not, is something unjustifiable in my opinion.

The doubts about whether Samsung would have decided to back down and finally introduce this function, arose from the fact that in the first betas of Android 9 for the Galaxy S9 and Note9, there were indications that suggested the possibility that this feature was enabled. However, in the end it has not been like that, and users will not be able to take full advantage of their microSD, not even with Android Pie.

Be that as it may, this is not the first time that Samsung has refused to introduce native Android features into its phone software. As I already commented in my analysis of the Samsung Galaxy A9 of 2018, it is inexcusable that at the gates of 2019 Samsung continues without having adopted the Seamless Updates system that considerably reduces the time that an Android device is inoperative while an OTA update is installed. Function that, since Android Nougat, is available on almost all Android smartphones from all manufacturers.

We do not know if Samsung will change its mind sooner or later and finally decide to give the option of activating Adoptable Storage to users of their phones updated to Android Pie, but today it seems quite unlikely that the company will give its arm to twist.
